Amsterdam first time visit - have I missed anything?

In a few weeks, am going with friends for a first time visit. Trip duration 4 days. Have I missed anything that I should not have from this list? Thanks

  1. Anne Frank House - have booked this
  1. None of us are huge art fans so I was thinking of choosing between the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum - I was thinking the latter as apparently it includes some VG whereas the former is obviously just VG
  1. Canal boat ride - any company/version particularly good or just any will do?
  1. Go inside the Royal Palace
  1. Visit Keukenhof and if time permits go to the tulip fields too
  1. See the IAmsterdam sign at the airport - I'm aware the original was removed back in Nov/Dec
  1. See the Red Light District
  1. Go somewhere for high up views - maybe Skylounge Double Tree
  1. Visit Zaanse Schans for windmills and clogs
  1. Chill at Vondelpark

  2. Go around the 9 Streets

  3. Eat pancakes

  4. Day trip to Giethoorn and De Orchideeën Hoeve if feasible

I know the Heineken museum is popular but alcohol isn't my thing so will skip that. Ditto the 'coffee' shops.

Any prompts / tips etc welcome and appreciated.

Hello. I'm an Amsterdam blogger. It's a pretty good list! I'd agree with most things on there. Zaanse Schans is touristy tat though and particularly nuts at this time of year with coach loads going from The Keukenhof to ZS. Def don't bother with the crappy Heineken Brewery.

I personally think Ams is best seen from water level. It doesn't have a skyline so wouldn't be too fussed about high views. Palace - meh and sadly the iamsterdam sign at the airport isn't a patch on the original.

This is my post for first timers but do browse through the blog more widely for lots more info on your places and more inspiration. Let me know if I can help with anything and have an amazing time!

Also if you're only there for 4 days make the most of Ams and surrounds. Much too much to get to Giethoorn as well.

Sorry last message for now. Please don't explore the red light district. It's so exploitative. This link from this week's Guardian gives you an idea of why the city is absolutely right to try to scale back on the tourism in this area
