Gran Canaria - north or south?

We're off to Gran Canaria over Easter. Only got flights booked so far and most of the independent accommodation I've seen that I like is in the north (prefer quiet, picturesque and rustic over modern beach resorts). It might be that more places remain unbooked in the north...

However, I've heard the north has significantly different weather and was wondering if it was a bit of a gamble?

We will probably split our time between two locations anyway - would it be worth staying north for a few days then heading south? Does anyone have any recommendations for specific places? We will be self catering, have small DC, and really just enjoy the quiet life and a bit of pottering around, hiking with a few beach trips thrown in!

We’re in the south right now but mainly doing diving and relaxing. Been out for a buggy ride and partner is off horse riding on Wednesday Can’t really say much about the north but if it’s like the south just go with the flow. Watch out for the petty crime which is on the increase in the Canary Islands at the moment.

Sorry @fuzzyduck1 only just seen this! We're inland, just north of centre and freezing our arses off but heading south tomorrow (but still far from resorts). Have managed to do a fair bit of hiking and hoping to get down to the coast today.

How's the diving? I did a fair few diving holidays pre kids!

Diving was good but not a patch on the Far East with it’s deserted islands and wall to wall sunshine we’ll have to wait til September for that though
