Looking for a 2 week holiday at the end of april/ start may. Found a lovely villa in Herceg Novi - anyone been there? Also wondering how warm it would be at that time - websites suggest quite a big range so wondering if it'll be warm enough... thanks

Sorry no, but will bump for you

I've done a day trip there- I remember a nice harbour but it's very hilly with lots of steps. Kotor was lovely and stunning scenery in Montenegro - Tivat airport is 10 mins from kotor x

Hi OP, generally weather is warm without being too hot in May. You’ll also avoid high tourist season then, so even better.
Lots to see and do on the coastline. Hire a car so you can explore, but keep in mind the roads can be quite steep and narrow, so just take it easy.

Have a great time. Montenegro is breathtakingly beautiful.

I haven't been to that particular place but I've been to Montenegro (kotor and possibly tivat) and they were lovely.

Pretty hazy on everywhere we went on day trips because it was about 5 years ago but everywhere was lovely!

Thanks all. Would like to be able to get around but bit nervous of driving as heard it can be a bit hair raising and will have dc (4 & 2) with us. Anyone know what public transport is like or reassure me about the roads??

We found driving around the bay hair raising but fine elsewhere including up to Herceg Novi. Didn’t see much public transport but taxis were super cheap. We’d quite like to go back but agreed we’d ditch the hire car and stump up for taxis if we do!

As pp says, I've been once on a day trip. Whole area is lovely though.

Really would like to go but the flights seems horrendously expensive
£1200+ compared to £670 to Slovenia for family of four return

lozengeoflove · 26/03/2019 14:53

Depends when you go,123. We are doing in June and it cost us, family of five, £480 including check in bags.

I haven't been to that particular area but I have now been to Montenegro 4 times and love it. Hope you have a fab time.

We went through on the bus to kotor and thought it looked a bit of a dump tbf. Apparently the town voted against independence and was punished by not receiving investment funding post independence.could have changed since 4 years ago thoygh

Kotor is beautiful especially the old town within the walls

buttermilkwaffles · 26/03/2019 21:07

Kotor within the walls is indeed beautiful. Some parts outside the walls are very run down and neglected though. Also noticed lots of stray cats but some of them were injured or poorly and nobody seemed to do anything about it, although a few locals did put food out. Was quite a lot of litter in the bay as well, wanted to swim but wasn't sure about the water quality, so didn't.

Certainly noticed the difference in infrastructure etc going from Croatia to Montenegro, obviously Croatia a much wealthier country and EU member.

Montenegro is beautiful though and people were mostly friendly and many spoke good English.

Gone2far · 27/03/2019 08:01

Kotor is beautiful but very small so I wouldn't use it as a base. We were advised not to swim in the bay. It's a ria, so very little water circulation, so water quality not brilliant.
