Christmas Holiday Abroad - anyone done it??

I have three children 6,4 &2. We are thinking of going away for Christmas, I want to go after Christams Day, dh wants to go away for the full duration.

I feel a little doubtful that I will feel like it is Christmas Day with the usual build up.

Anyone done it, did you take presents with you?

All experiences welcome good and bad. Where did you go?

I haven't been with kids, cba, but Austria can be rather magical over Christmas with almost guaranteed snow and no rowdiness. It's peaceful and chocolate-box pretty.

Those I have known take some small (usually higher-value) gifts with them ... do a little shopping when over there (give them ex-amount of santa money for small toys), and hire them a toboggan or two!

When they return, they open some more presents.

Whether you go before Christmas day or after, the festive decorations/Christmas trees will enchant your children.

If he's thinking hot and exotic, I definitely wouldn't be there for Christmas Day! It just isn't right!

We spent Christmas in Florida a couple of years ago. It's not to everyone's taste, but we had a great time.

We took a stocking for everyone with lots of little lightweight things, and bought a couple of things once we were there.

We stayed in DH's colleague's villa, and on Christmas Day had a very simple Christmas Dinner. We then went to Downtown Disney for the afternoon. The boys had MacDonalds and Ghirardelli Ice Creams for tea (their choice, a once in a lifetime thing, lol).

It was a great holiday, and we're doing it again this Christmas.

Austria at Christmas sounds lovely.
