So I'm going on a dream holiday with my man next week. We can't wait
We're staying close to Patong in a supposed quiet resort and I just want to know what it's like?
How much is it for a Meal out ?
Are we going to be surrounded by super gorgeous young women 😟
How safe is it generally for a couple walking around and what trips are worth doing?

What trips are worth doing? We want to make the most of the time there but not waste money on over expensive trips if there not worth it ?
Any recommendations

Patong is really laid back and chilled although very busy and can be a bit seedy in parts. Lots of Young's Aussies in shorts and flip flops. Some lovely spots just on the outskirts though and ideal for travelling into Patong for a wide variety of places to eat, nightlife and markets.

Thailand and especially the people, hotels and the food are wonderful.
We travel to Thailand most years and if you stick to local restaurants with amazing food you can easily get a meal for 2 - starter and main - along with a couple of alcoholic drinks for less than £30 in total.

Accommodations are generally spotless and the service is so good it will spoil you for anywhere else. Grin

Phuket not my favourite island as a wee bit busy for me but still terrific.

Have a fab holiday! Will be back at the end of the year I feel sure.

I'm just back from a couple of weeks in Thailand, had a great time. We had a week at Kata Beach - took a day trip on a speedboat to Koh Phi Phi, Kata Noi, Maya (The Beach) - booked it through Phuket Travel with Diamond Tours, cost around £40 or so including transfers and lunch. Really a fab day out. They also go to Phnang Nga and other places.
Also took a tuktuk up to the Big Buddha - views spectacular.

Thanks ruby1234 and raffles
The trip to the islands sounds good value 👍

Make sure you haggle well with the tour operators - we got our trips for around 1/3 of the price on the leaflets.
Even better if you can go 'tomorrow' - lots of deals around.

@Rafflesway

Why do you keep returning? Would you take small children. why go all the way there instead of Spain.

Where would you recommend...is Water safe for swimming etc

Rafflesway · 23/03/2019 09:53

Hi LateEaster. We return regularly because of the people, the quality of the hotels and the food.

Europe no longer really holds any appeal for us as a main holiday destination - we are "oldies but youngies" 😁 - although we do often visit Majorca, Canaries etc. for short breaks. Also the prices for a decent 4/5* hotel in Europe is ridiculously high these days and the standards are just not comparable to those in the Far East. We have pretty much covered everywhere that appeals within Europe during our younger years and when our dd was small.

No I personally wouldn't take young children all the way to Thailand for a holiday as I feel it is just too far/flights too long. However, once they are 11/12 or over and if you feel they could cope with the flights then absolutely yes.

Rafflesway · 23/03/2019 09:59

Sorry forgot to add, I don't think the sea is great for swimming in most resorts but to be honest we are more "Pool people" and don't really use the beach. You do need to check the weather for the area you are interested in for the time of year you wish to travel as it varies hugely throughout the country.

Resort recommendations depend upon what YOU want from your holiday. However I would certainly avoid Pattaya and some of the bustling resorts like Patong which tend to be full of girly bars etc. We prefer much more scenic and quieter areas although we do like Hua Hin which is busy but not sleazy if that makes sense.
