Trip ideas for toddler- like going on a train

I'm looking for ideas of outings with my toddler, my idea so far is I thought we'd take a short train ride and go to a park, but other similar sort of ideas would be very welcome!

We're looking for something a bit different to toddler groups or soft play

Thank you!

what location? what budget?

if you are anywhere near nottingham, there is a railway museum where you can ride on tiny trains, middle size trains and great big steam trains. That is great for toddlers.

in the winter, the upstairs of a double decker bus can be pretty entertaining for a toddler.

Or just going to any big playground, run around, go to a cafe, go home. Some national trust houses have great playgrounds and don't charge much if you don't go into the posh house.

Lots of theatre groups do 45min-1 hr productions for older toddlers
Farm visit in spring to feed lambs
Toy boat on string at small stream

Nature walk looking for signs of spring

Feeding ducks

Trip to an airport where you can see the planes take off and land.

Boat trip I.e. canal ride or short ferry ride.

My dd loves taking the bus. We just go to the next town and back. Also just sitting in the interchange watching the buses go in and out.

Also walk along the canal if you have one nearby. Very exciting if you see a boat!

Most local museums are free, check your local council webpage.

I basically look for excuses to go for a walk; posting letters (shall we see if we can find a postbox??) visiting the library, looking for something in the charity shops etc. Sometimes I just say we’re going on an adventure and let her choose left, right or straight on at each corner.
