Tuscany (where to stay)

We are going to Pisa, Florence and visiting some other places in Tuscany; I would like some advice about where to stay/best place to based ourselves. Thinking on spending 2 nights in Pisa and then based ourselves in the same place for the other 7 days, hopefully within driving distance to Florence and an other important places to visit in the area.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Grieve in Chianti and the surrounding areas are of particular beauty. Sienna also.

I would suggest Lucca rather than Pisa, once you have done the tower and duomo there is not much else there. Have a look at towns between Florence and Siena, avoiding tourist hot spots such as San Gimigniano to stay. Volterra is a nice hill town if further over.

Thank you very much. Have booked accommodation in Grieve in Chianti and Lucca.

Pisa is just a day trip. We loved Sienna, Florence San G we camped many years ago for a week.

From Lucca, you are well placed to make a day trip up the Serchio valley to see Bagni di Lucca or Barga, up in the Alpi Apuane - makes a nice change from the bigger towns and cities.

Pienza is beautiful, Siena or an Agriturismo stay if you have kids
