Beach Summer hols in sun/ where DH can cycle?

I’m looking for a summer holiday somewhere on a beach where my DH can road cycle (mammal ;)) We’ve got 2 boys 6 and 4 who love the beach but who could probably do with a kids club and evening entertainment. I love Majorca and Ibiza but that was pre kids. I’ve never done a package holiday with kids - sounds like heaven. Any ideas?

Try costa blanca north. Just behind the beach it is mountainous and a lot of the top professional cycling teams train there. I am talking about the Marina Alta. Moraira and Denia are nice. Calpe has a very good beach for kids but is more built up. Beautiful scenery just behind the coast.

Oh thank you! That sounds like that would do the trick.

What about the Canaries or Greece mainland? I assume you want somewhere will hills. We found the interior of Sicily had quiet roads, too.

Lots of cyclists use Majorca for training. My husband usually find an excuse where ever we go. The trick is to find a bike shop local to where you are, they often do excursions for cyclists. In Majorca we were at the first choice holiday village (brilliant kids clubs) Husband went with local bike shop to climb Sa Calobra one day. (We then did connect his Garmin to one of the 4 person bikes and race along the beach front but that's a different story...)

Mallorca is famous for its road cycling - loads of pro teams train there.

Santababyclaus · 02/01/2019 18:46

Lanzarote is also well known for cyclists

I'm going to make my usual recommendation of Villa Concha in Puerto Pollensa, they actually have a cycling garage and bike rentals on-site. It's also a fab hotel for little ones as it's one street back from a wide sandy beach, and the hotel has a shallow play pool with little slides perfect for your children's ages alongside normal pools.

I was going to say Puerto Pollensa, I think wotsiface with the sideburns trained in the mountains round there! Grin

Check out Neilson holidays - they have lots of activities including road and mountain biking plus kids clubs. We went to the Sivota Beach Club in Greece, and both did cycling.

Amazonian27 · 09/01/2019 19:52

I have two lots of friends who are both keen cyclists and enjoy regular hols in Puerto Pollensa it’s a family friendly resort so don’t think you can go wrong there.

We did Lanzarote last year , appt on a complex so could use pool , entertainment etc but hired bikes and went all over for 3 days with DH having a bike all week - it was a nice compromise

OlafLovesAnna · 09/01/2019 20:00

Cascais near Lisbon is very popular with cyclists it seems although it is pretty hilly. We live here but there are some nice hotels round about.

My 6 Yr old is fine in the water although it's chillier than the med and there is loads to do for families.

Frenchfamille · 10/01/2019 12:38

That's a good day suggestion and we've went there last year. My lot are all competitive cyclists so thought it bliss - lots of for cyclists! Then me and younger ones on the beach.....

Frenchfamille · 10/01/2019 12:39

I was referring to Buddywoos comment. Sorry, didn't make that clear.

millimat · 24/01/2019 22:47

I was also going to say majorca as dh likes training there. He also likes tenerife. I like both as I can lie by the pool Grin

Another recommendation for Mallorca, cyclists everywhere. Our hotel in Puerto Pollensa had its own bike shop.

soupandshake · 27/01/2019 18:44

Another Neilson fan, it's full of folk in Lycra discussing their Strada data.
