We have a full day so the morning will be spent at Camp Nou. We might do a little bit of Las Ramblas but what other things can we do with an 11 year old boy?

Speedboat - ds loved it at about that age. From the bottom of Las Ramblas, just 20 minutes or so along the beaches. And the food market on Las Ramblas, can't remember the name...

Aquarium and the cable car over the harbour

We did a Polaroid tour with Withlocals, which was really cool!

The fun fair at the top of Tibidabo.

Segway tour

Absolutely second the funfair at the top of Tibidabo! The tram up is so fun and the view from the top is fab not to mention the lovely old fashioned funfair. Although it is only open properly in the Summer months. Open top bus tour, hop on hop off is a fun way to explore the city. You can stop at the football stadium if he is into football. There is also a great beach in Barcelona if you are going in the Summer. I have not been but Barcelona Zoo is supposed to be good.
Do not forget to get Hot chocolate and churros!

We loved Gaudi's Parc Guell. Before going, we saw a 4D show about Gaudi in a cinema very close to it.
We also did the Hop On, Hop Off bus which our 12 and 13 year olds loved

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/12/2018 18:09

Yes to Parc Guell. Not really understanding the suggestion of a speedboat, you can do that anywhere with a beach!

tylerandjacobsmom · 27/12/2018 18:11

i think barcelona is a not so great place for children, one of my kids was approached by an older man, who probably was high as a kite on god knows what, and tried to pick him up good lord thank you roger for being a protector, i love my husband not to mention tyler and jacob

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/12/2018 19:37

Tyleransjacobsmom: step away from the gin!

Badbadbunny · 27/12/2018 19:45

The zoo is excellent.

Not sure Park Guell has much interest for an 11 year old? But if so, you usually have to book in advance as visitor numbers are limited - lots of unhappy people there when we went.

My 10yo could make a whole day out of playing on the sands, tbh, interspersed with ice cream. Long walks by sea side & up to see the funny buildings (Gaudi park).

If they’re into Roman history at all, there’s a museum in the centre you can get a lift down to the original Roman street layout.

PatriciaHolm · 27/12/2018 20:02

Olympics museum is fun, and ours enjoyed the museum of inventions - small but entertaining. It's a great city with kids!

So much to do in Barcelona- we love the magic fountains (music and light show) check before you go as they’re not on everyday. Also there’s a nice park near the centre (cuitadella?) with some wacky sculptures and a boating lake. There is usually a cart selling drinks, crisps, baguettes etc so a nice spot for lunch.
I’m not sure if it is still there but a couple of years ago there was a pick n mix type sweet shop near the cathedral called ‘Happy Pills’ somewhat inappropriate but my kids did like filling their pill boxes with sweets (they were old enough to realise that pills aren’t sweeties!).

PizzaPlanet · 02/01/2019 18:11

Oh and the main department store (Corte Englaise?) has a great restaurant in the top floor for either a meal or just drinks and snacks with massive picture windows and the most fabulous view of the city including Sagrada Familia. Apologies for any mis-spelling
