Evening mumsnetters, I'm going to Glasgow the weekend after next with my DS14 & DD11, DS is in a competition on the Sunday but we have a free day on the Saturday. What should we do,where should we visit? Places to eat?
I don't really fancy just wondering around aimlessly all day would love to have a bit of structure to the day!

Glasgow science museum is excellent, they have an imax too there. Also Kelvingrove art gallery

Second the science museum. The open top bus tour is good too. Glasgow is also good for shoppers by and I like Di Maggio’s in the city centre.

The Transport Museum was a hit with my DS and the café was lovely. Really good quality food.

TooTrueToBeGood · 07/11/2018 18:00

The transport museum is well worth a visit. Also, check what's on at the SECC.

What do you and your DD enjoy? It's a great city for art galleries, museums - science, transport, etc.. Botanic gardens.. also good for shopping.. wherever you end up in the city there are a lot of great places to eat!

avocadosrus · 07/11/2018 18:32

They would love both love the science museum so that's a very good shout thank you, DD (& me) would be happy to spend some time go around the shops but DS won't be keen so trying to find something to suit them both will be the key to a peaceful/stress free day!

The transport museum is good and (i think) all their museums are free

Agree science centre & transport museum are good! If driving loch Lomond can be good, balloch isn't far from Glasgow and loch Lomond shores can be good for kids but not sure how it would be in winter.

Another vote for science centre and kelvingrove. Also, lunch at Babs.

Wendygoesfar · 07/11/2018 19:06

Sorry I read it as you and DD had a spare day while Ds was busy.
If you want to stay Central you can do GOMA - modern art, peoples palace, the Barras.. you could lose a whole day to the science centre and it has a planetarium too.
The tour bus would take you to all the 'top spots' and you can hop on and off. The subway is great too and goes in a loop so you can't really get lost.
Great pizza at Paesano (town and West end), Topolabamba for Mexican food and lots of other great places depending on your tastes.
West end is great for pottering, vintage shops and coffee.. Kelvingrove Art Gallery was recently voted top art gallery in the UK!

@Wendygoesfar it's me and the 2 kids for the day on the Saturday and then me & dd get to watch DS in his comp on Sunday.
Definitely going to do the science & transport museum as they look so good and come so highly recommended!

Kelvingrove sounds great too & ive seen that that weekend they are restoring 3 of Banksy's pieces that had been covered, I think we'll try & find that if we have time!

Kelvingrove, the transport museum and the science centre are not a million miles apart so hopefully you'll be able to fit them all in. Cafe andaluz is great for tapas and has a lovely atmosphere.

avocadosrus · 08/11/2018 12:13

@nottakinganymoreshit thank you that's really good to know , really looking forward to it!
