I need HELP! Find me a cheap as possible holiday! (Please)

I want to take my 4 dc on our 1st holiday during the summer.
Thinking of going to weymouth as i have no transport and the train from here only take an hour.
I need somewhere for me and 4 children (10,7,3(on 25th July) and 4.)Self catering i assume is cheapest.(I haven't got a clue, never booked a holiday before!)And a holiday park/static caravan is probably best(?).

SW says she can apply to the holiday fund to help pay but the form needs destination and total Accomodation costs before it can be sent off. Also in case i don't get any money through the fund i need to be sure i can cover the cost,

So far we have raised £120! Plus i can save 2 months worth of Child Benifit by 25th July, so around £500 in all.

Please help me find us somewhere to stay as cheap as possible.
During August i think, or end July into August.
At least 3 days/nights although a week would be nice!

Needs to be close to town or possible bus route if we have to.

TIA

this is right on the budget of £495 ...

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 21:35

\link{http://www.castlecovecaravans.co.uk/bit cheaper at £420-460, but describes itself as 'secluded' although right on the beach}

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 21:36

I give up

tortoise · 14/06/2007 21:44

Thanks SMS. Look good. Would prefer cheaper though . SW seemed at prices above £300!!

Really not sure i could cope with camping with them all. We do have a tent but its only 4 person and a tight squeeze last year in the garden! No sleeping bags or anything and its a lot to carry on the train.

Have you tried looking at AdMag or something like that. I think that would be much cheaper than looking online as you deal direct with the owners of the flats/caravans and you may find somewhere with no middleman to take their cut.

tortoise · 14/06/2007 21:57

Admag? never heard of that.
Where would i find that?

i have to get a price A.S.A.P as SW off all next week.

Newsagents. That is what it is called round here. It is just a newspaper but full of classified ads. There might not be admag near you but will be an equivalent - freeads or something like that.

Just check it has a holidays section before you buy.

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 22:01

I just think you will cut your prices as you find private advertisers letting out holiday flats rather than going for a full blown colour brochure or website which has to be paid for IYSWIM.

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 22:20

have a look at this .

This is the classifieds section from my local paper. Going to Skeggy for me sounds like you going to Weymouth IYSWIM. I have just put that on to show that there is stuff in your budget.

Get a paper full of classifieds and you will have much more choice.

tortoise · 14/06/2007 22:25

Thanks for that. I will look for a freeads paper tomorrow.

If you hold fire, you will probably be able to get a break at one of the Haven holiday parks for that nearer the time. the kids would love it!

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 22:45

Woul you really get haven that cheap...even nearer the time?

Admits it would be a fab holiday if you could

WestCountryLass · 14/06/2007 22:45

There are two near Weymouth and one near Poole.

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 22:47

And the weymouth ones are pretty good aren't they. CAn't you use facilities at both?

I just thought it would be risky to try and get it that cheap...could be wrong though

WestCountryLass · 14/06/2007 22:48

Well we went in last holidays for £150 for 3 night break, would obviously cost moren for a week. You need to look at late deals on their website. We booked the day before, so you have to have the luxury of that sort of flexibility.

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 22:50

When you say last holidays do you mean easter/whitsun or last summer?

WestCountryLass · 14/06/2007 22:51

Last summer

SlightlyMadScientist · 14/06/2007 22:52

Fair enough....worth considering if tortoise can accomodate that flexibility with her holiday fund application. Haven are fab!!!

WestCountryLass · 14/06/2007 22:57

We couldn't believe our luck!

tortoise · 14/06/2007 23:01

Thats what i would like to do WCL. But i don't think i can if i want to get help frrom funding. I would love to take them to Haven . Maybe i need to get some more things sorted to sell!
I may ring the SW tomorrow and see what she says. And 3 days would be fone if thats all we can get also we can go last minute very easily.

hi tortoise. Have you any tesco clubcard vouchers you could use towards Haven?

SlightlyMadScientist · 15/06/2007 13:31

I was going to suggets clubcard vouchers BUT you need a lot to make it worthwhile. The holiday is actually more expensive (usually) if you pay part with vouchers so you could end up paying more cash than you would if you didn't use any vouchers IYSWIM.

tortoise · 15/06/2007 19:47

I only have a few Tesco vouchers. Most got used as money off when i had very little money to buy food.
I found this but i am not sure what they are really like! Not enough good pics but price not too bad.
