HI Mums,

I am looking for travel insurance providers that will cover me from 33-34 weeks pregnant. Just in case I go into early labour.

you could try here. i think they cover you up to 36 weeks. however, i think you may need a letter from your gp saying you are fit to fly, and i also read somewhere that this only covers you going there, so on the return trip you will need to find an international hospital that will give you a certificate. wish i could tell you were i read it! all the best x

all airlines are going to require you to provide a fit to fly letter. whether you are able to get this or not is going to depend on your general health throughout pregnancy so its not just one of those things that is a given. some airlines wont let you fly with them at all after a certain date so you will need to pick and choose your airline carefully. Any insurer that you go with is also going to want to see your fit to fly. also bear in mind that if this is a long haul flight then it might not be particularly comfortable. How many weeks will you be when you fly home?

Not sure about insurance after 32 weeks, might be tricky to find a good one which will cover everything.

But regarding Fit to Fly letter I had an awful time trying to get one (for a 2.5hr flight to Spain) despite having a healthy pregnancy. GP refused to do it and kept saying it wasn't their place to write one I should see midwife, who said it wasn't her place it was the GP. It took 6 weeks to sort out, alot of back and forth. In the end I got one from the GP but she refused to write the specific wording "Fit to Fly" which the airline told me I needed. I chanced it anyway as it was too late to cancel. I didn't declare I was pregnant - and not one person asked on the way there at 31 weeks, or on the way back at 32.
