French France Summer Holidays 2018

Is anyone else holidaying in France this year? This is our fifth year in a row and we’re heading to Regusse this year on the 4th. We did the Dordogne last year which was beautiful so looking forward to exploring a new area. And drinking copious amounts of wine and eating croissants until they come out of my ears....

Anyone else?

Ooh, please have a croissant for me! This is the first year we are not camping in France- have been for the last 10 years.

We are going all inclusive in Greece instead, bit of a change. I am excited to be going but also sad not to be in France....

happystory · 01/08/2018 07:12

Would be interested to hear where people are going. I know Northern France quite well, but not the rest of it.

CherryPavlova · 01/08/2018 07:13

We’ve part shares in a boat that we move around France ever two years. We’re off to Alsace Lorraine, near Strasbourg this September staying in a chateau near Reims on way down (to buy fizz) and a gite on a lake near Troyes on return ( to get doggo tapeworm treated to allow return entry to U.K.).

trilbydoll · 01/08/2018 07:15

We are camping in the Vendée. First camping trip, 10 days, what could possibly go wrong?!

LarryFreakinStylinson · 01/08/2018 09:16

Oh you’ll have a fab time in the Vendee, we’ve been there 3 times, whereabouts are you headed?

I’ve never done Northern France so don’t know it well at all 😊

We’re off to the Vendee, it’s my children’s first proper French holiday. We’ve done the odd weekend in Paris, day trips to Calais & the surrounding areas & Disneyland, but never a full holiday.
We’re staying in a caravan on a Yelloh Campsite & stopping off in Rouen on the way!
I’m excited because from age 9 (same as my eldest), my family holidays were spent travelling around France every Summer Holiday for 3 weeks, staying in various Keycamp sites with the odd very cheap hotel thrown in!!

We are going to Ceret with extended family. Half of us are flying in and the others are driving and having an extra week. We've booked a big house with a pool and we are going to do a fair bit of chilling but also some cycling and exploring. I am so excited for the wine :-)

We were planning to go to France next summer but DH is obsessed with bloody Brexit and the removal of EHIC cover for Brits. I can see his point (as I had a serious health scare this year) but I think he is over reacting.

No point in trying to force the matter - he will just get argumentative and I can't be bothered. So I am now looking into the Isle of Wight...... yay! Still holding out home that some deal will be made so we keep the EHIC through the transition period.

Not going anywhere this year as he wanted to use the ££ for home improvements. Missing it at the moment as my work colleagues are all on holiday.

Tranche sur mer. Looking forward to being there, not looking for to packing the car!

LarryFreakinStylinson · 01/08/2018 20:42

The first four days are showing thunderstorms. I’m hoping they are brief and interspersed with outrageously hot and sunny spells.

We're off to Normandy soon. Love all areas of France!

poorbuthappy · 02/08/2018 23:06

Off down south on the 16th!
Can't wait!!

Growingboys · 02/08/2018 23:07

We're off to the Lot Valley. Hope the weather holds!

2ducks2ducklings · 02/08/2018 23:39

We're off to La Palmyre, which is about 50km from La Rochelle. We've been many times before but absolutely love the area. It's great for the kids with lovely beaches and miles and miles of safe cycle paths. Can't wait for my 'Religiouse' cakes (I've butchered the spelling of that!).

yogiannie · 03/08/2018 15:32

we are in the Dordogne camping near Sarlat enjoying wonderful patisserie and baguette , lots of time splashing in the river 😊

millimat · 03/08/2018 21:10

Which site @yogiannie?

yogiannie · 04/08/2018 16:42

maisonneuve 😊

LarryFreakinStylinson · 05/08/2018 09:05

Greetings from sunny Régusse. First morning and I’ve had my baguette, croissant and pain au chocolate. Life is good 🙌🏻

Sarlat is 1 of my favourite places.

LarryFreakinStylinson · 06/08/2018 06:41

Sarlat is beautiful. I really enjoyed looking around it.

Has anyone been around the gorge du Verdon area? That’s where we are and looking for things to do that are tried and tested!

We're not far from there in les hautes alpes near sisteron. The kids are enjoying the swimming areas in the villages. My daughter went climbing in orpiere. Today we hired a donkey from bamboulane in eourres. We had a great day. First family holiday in france apart from trip to Paris some years ago.we usually holiday in Cork.

rookiemere · 06/08/2018 21:50

We're off to Morzine on Sunday doing an alps activity holiday. So excited as its half board - DS used to be very fussy with his food so this is the first year where I think he'll be reliably fed - no cooking for me !

annandale · 06/08/2018 21:53

Having a wonderful time in Northern corsica. There's lots to see and do but we are not seeing or doing any of it Wine

LarryFreakinStylinson · 10/08/2018 07:57

I hope no one has been affected by the floods. We had a lovely day in Monaco yesterday and swimming in Villefranche-sur-Mer followed by a treacherous drive home in the rain!
