Solo jaunt at Xmas. Ideas please

I’m going to be DC free this Christmas and am thinking of a solo trip, possibly long haul. I’m always a bit meh about Christmas and enjoy my own company so quite looking forward to getting away from it. Haven’t got loads of cash, like cities, would be up for some walking in rural areas and would’t mind being in an organised group for part of the trip (rest of it in glorious selfish semi-solitude). Any suggestions?

Off track but I AM JEALOUS

Tell me. It's not 100% definite yet but I am counting my lucky stars.

I have the option of going away with my BF of 18 months but sod that.

NYC?

PotteringAlong · 28/07/2018 22:37

Actually, scrap that, I bet it’s eye-watering at Christmas!

You have the option of going away with your boyfriend or your best friend? Why wouldn't you do that?

bluetrampolines · 28/07/2018 22:40

Yeah. Why wouldn't you do that?

If go somewhere remote in Asia where they are only just bothering about Christmas.

If you are happy in your own company, travelling on your own is fantastic. You do exactly what you want, when you want, and don't have to compromise on anything.

I really miss that now I'm not single. I feel obliged to invite DP along these days, but I would actually prefer to go alone. I've had awesome holidays on my own.

How about Australia OP?

GreasyFryUp · 28/07/2018 23:12

Briefly been to Oz but it didn't grab me. Like to try somewhere new.

No boyfriend because I would like the trip to think about myself and new experiences. Never the same if you are compromising with someone else.

Asia. I thought of that but haven't really done any research yet. Wouldn't mind somewhere out of comfort zone that I hadn't thought of.

What's your regular comfort zone?

Go to Iceland & book yourself on to some Grayline tours - fabbbbb

It's not longhaul, but Andalusia ticks a lot of your boxes, some lovely rural areas for walking, some great cities (Seville, Granada), easy to get around by train or bus, reasonably warm during the day (warmer than the UK anyway).

Also a lot of long haul destinations will have high prices for flights around Christmas/New Year, whereas there are quite a few budget airlines going to Malaga/Seville etc.

For somewhere long haul, Sri Lanka or somewhere in South America maybe? Do you want to go somewhere where it's winter or summer? Somewhere warm/hot or not bothered? Maybe look at flight prices first and see what's not too expensive?

Sri Lanka

What about a yoga retreat with organised group activities?
