Alvor & Tavira -have you been to both ?

We had several wonderful holidays around 10 years ago in Alvor . Loved the beach and fabulous food / fish restaurants and uncrowded vibe .

If you have been to both places , would we like Tavira ?

Try Isla Canela just over the border in Spain

Tavira is quieter and more ‘Portuguese’ than Alvor but very pretty

Tavira is pretty - we went in Feb and while we liked it, it is small and you can see all the sights easily in one day. There is a beach there on the outskirts which we went past on a little tourist train but only saw it in passing! Nice places to eat there. I'd go back but only as a stop on a bigger journey.

DH was talking about Tavira, his friend has just returned, they had a great holiday, found prices quite cheap for food and drink.

Still very Spanish, mostly holiday makers from Portugal and Spain.
More Brits than 10 years ago when we first started to go but no English pubs or similar.
The town is called Ayamonte and it’s great as well
Interestingly a lot of people pop over the border ( totally open you only kniw you have changed countries due to a sign) to buy petrol and groceries as it’s so much cheaper. Once when we were there friends who were staying in Villamoura visited and they couldn’t get over how cheap everything was.
We usually avoid August as it’s too hot for us and go in May and October
Love it and will probably retire there eventually
