Anyone been to Austria in late September?

Hi. My husband and I are trying to decide where to go away for a week the third week of September with our 2 year old. I really fancy 2 or 3 days in Innsbruck or Salzburg followed by 4/5 days in a lake/mountain village or small town nearby maybe at a Kinder hotel. But worried that it may be too cold in a mountain resort. Not looking for sun and warm weather as such and happy to wear sweaters/light coats but don't want to be freezing! Has anyone got any experience? Thanks! X

Not been to Austria at that time, but went to the Sud Tirol in the very north of Italy in early October with a 1 and 3 year old. Stayed up in the mountains - got a bit cold at night, but it was still lovely and warm down in the valleys (grape harvesting in full flow). Lovely time to go to the mountains :) Bolzano is a fantastic place to visit and stay and only 1.5 hours from Innsbruck.

There’s a good chance you’ll still have nice weather at that time if year.

Well, it could be glorious late summer sunshine with the start of autumnal colours in the deciduous trees or snowing! Grin That's the mountains for you. If you have a look on Bergfex website, you will find webcams that you can go back in time to see what the weather was like last year, but it could be completely different this year. No much help there, am I?
Layers and good walking boots are the rule.
Have a nice time, it's a lovely part of the world.

Thanks for the great, positive feedback. Think we'll probably go for it and pack extra warm clothes just in case!
