Carpet or Paint the Floors White?

Can anyone make a decision for me. Dithering over whether to paint dd's floor white or to carpet over it. It's stripped floorboards right now--in passable condition. Problem is we may sell next year and dh thinks people don't like floorboards painted white. What do you think? Need to clean it up somehow so dd can crawl on it.

carpet. If youpaint it and the next people want it as bare wood then they have a hell of a job to clean it

DSMEZ · 20/05/2007 22:48

So is the consensus that most British people prefer stripped wood floors as opposed to painted ones?

Carpet. We've just moved to a new house and I hate having no carpets in the children's bedrooms. Also think your DH is right. Even a cheapish carpet can look fresh and clean, painted floorboards can be so easily botched. (Although I'm sure yours would be perfect )

Pixiefish · 20/05/2007 22:49

I can't tell you about most British people but personally I'd prefer to at least have the option of stripping the floorboards and I know that this is made more difficult if they have been painted

Carpet without a doubt - warmer than floorboards, will not get scratched, no noise and doesn't scream 'draw on me' like painted floorboards would

DSMEZ · 20/05/2007 22:51

Do you think sisal is too tough for dbs?

Sisal is hard on little feet and is awful to try to keep clean...think lovely welcoming carpet all snuggly in winter for your DD.

DSMEZ · 20/05/2007 22:55

Oh that;s true Smurfs. I like the look of sisal but it isn't very soft.

How about 'Naturals' if you go for darker colours they can look similar to Sisal etc as they are textured with a bigger loop/pile but are softer under foot. There are loads about in most shops currently. We have just got new carpets hence my natterings

i like painted boards

Wotzsaname · 20/05/2007 23:02

DSMEZ · 20/05/2007 23:04

We wanted white floorbords in our newly built bathroom. Painted the brand new floorboards white, within a month it looked really grubby despite the fact that no-one was going in with shoes on! We then painted it blue using 'proper' expensive floorpaint whihc looks nice, but the paint seems to chip off quite easily so we've got white bits showing thru (looks lovely!!)
