First holiday with baby - where?

Where should we go on holiday late August/early September with a 4 month old?

We're not really sun worshipers and id be worried about the little one, so nowhere too hot (though I do like a bit of sea swimming) - mid 20s at very most. Could be UK/Europe/further afield, and have 1-3 weeks available depending on cost. Baby is breastfed so don't need to worry about food for him (if that makes a difference).

Any tips/recommendations much appreciated!

Oh and meant to say we don't want to have to drive if possible.

Minorca would be a nice choice. Quiet. Short flight. Quick transfers. Small island with a bus service but also very easy to drive on if you are not used to driving abroad.

I've not been so cannot say if it's any good, but we're considering going to Tossa de Mar in Northern Spain. Flight from Gatwick to Girona airport is less than 2 hours with the resort about 40 min away, which is appealing for us with a 3 year old. We're looking at the same period of time and, think, temperatures should be no more than high 20s.

La pineda in the costs dorada is also a good option, if you fly into reus airport, transfer is about 20 minutes and again a very short flight.

I'd recommend going to Nice and staying at Novotel Nice Centre.
Sunshine is almost guaranteed but it's not too hot. The famous palm-lined Nice promenade stretches along the sea front for 8km and is perfect for pushing a pushchair. There are lots of gardens and green spaces and it's always easy to find a bench or a shady spot.
The Novotel has baby baths and baby sitting on request and family rooms are generously sized. It has a rooftop pool with sea views. Children get a warm welcome and a personal gift and even though you won't be using them with a 4month old, it's worth noting that there's a children's library and play area. The hotel is a few minutes from the tram station and Nice airport is just 9km away.

This place near Naples in Ischia. Just a 2 hour flight from London airports. Sea will be warm for swimming in September, but it shouldn’t be too hot then (mid to late 20s).

You need to get the ferry to the island as there is no airport on Ischia- the hotel picks you up from port in ischia (included in cost of your stay).

The hotel is family friendly. It has a pool, restaurant, bar, thermal spa (obviously not for kids) kids club for toddlers +. There is a shuttle bus to take you to beach/ attractions so you don’t need to drive.

The food gets excellent reviews and rates are half board. The island is tiny (8 miles) but there is lots to do/ see (towns, beach, botanical gardens).

It’s also very affordable. We are paying just over £500 pp for July. It will be cheaper in September. Our DD is free and is old enough to use the kids club Grin

I’ve been to Ischia twice and know this town but haven’t actually stayed here yet, but the reviews look very good.

Italy will be hotter than mid-20s in August

LibertyBlue · 29/05/2018 22:05

^ oh they also have all the stuff you need for babies so you shouldn’t have to bring much with you- I didn’t pay close attention but it’s all listed on website / described in reviews

LibertyBlue · 29/05/2018 22:08

Oh sorry I just saw September. Yep August is going to be hot. Northern Spain or France also likely to be very hot. Perhaps Scandinavia? Although I don’t think it’s ever warm enough to swim in the sea there!

pieceofpurplesky · 29/05/2018 22:10

When DS was a baby (under 1) we went to Guernsey, Sicily and Tenerife. All were great.
In August most places will be boiling on the med - how about the Channel Islands?

CloudPop · 29/05/2018 22:15

Northern France. Search toddler friendly holidays there are some fab, really well equipped places around there

harrietm87 · 30/05/2018 07:57

Thanks all for the ideas!

@LibertyBlue we love ischia- had our honeymoon there in fact, but yes think it may be too hot (we went early sept and was mid-high 20s then).

I think we'll have a look at France.

What about the UK? Anyone have any good seaside recommendations?

In the U.K. favourites are Wells next the sea in Norfolk, Seahouses in Northumberland, Southwold Aldeborough or Thorpeness in Suffolk

How funny you honeymooned I’m Ischia! If you like it, one to book mark for later when you can use the kids club! It is a lovely island - much less visited than Capri but in my opinion has much more to offer
