Lake garda or near by area ?

We are family of 5 (3,6,11) looking for recommendations for Accommodation near lake garda or surrounding areas in August

Our only requirement is self catering and pool, preference would be in strolling distance to town with restaurant & shops

Any ideas - I've never been to Italy and we had visions of staying in a gorgeous rustic accommodation with a pool on a vineyard or olive groves, having a glass of wine & bread while children played in the pool but having spent hours looking at accommodation today I don't feel any further ahead.

Also our budget is limited unfortunately

Have a look at agriturismo.it although you usually need a car to make the most of the countryside setting.

Thanks lizs - I have had a look today but couldn't tell what had self catering facilities- a lot of them seemed like B&B? Any recommendations?

You should look into the town of Malcesine (mal-chesney). We loved it there, loads of things to do on the lake and the most amazing gelato. Eating out very reasonable too. Been twice and will go back when the babies are older. :)

I was going to suggest Mascesine too, it's lovely! No idea about self catering I'm afraid, but it's a fabulous little town.

The Poiano Apartments in Garda I think fit everything (except maybe budget as its around 1300-1400 Euro for the apartments for the week)

Garda (the town) and Malcesine are both lovely and come highly recommended. Garda is slightly smaller and quieter so fewer tourists, but as far as I can remember the lake swimming there is better than at Malcesine, if that's important to you. Happy holiday, OP!

These apartments are lovely. Restaurants within walking distance, short walk to the lake shore.

Another vote for Malcesine it's lovely! We weren't self catering but it was reasonable to eat out x

I loved Garda, Malcesine and Sirmione. I would recommend the East side of the lake because you keep the evening sun for longer. Lake Garda is fabulous.
