Greek islands - which ones do you recommend?

I am thinking about going to a Greek island with my daughter, I am looking for recommendations for which islands are nice and if possible which hotels you would recommend?

For our last holiday we went to a rui hotel which was lovely so would like something of the same standard if possible :)

Some parts of the islands look like there is nothing around so that's why I would like an idea of where to go :)

I don't have hotel recommendations as haven't been for so long, but I am also dreaming of a trip to Greece. I am thinking of Corfu. Previously have been to Sifnos which I absolutely loved (this was pre children )

Will look out for recommendations as well!

Are you looking at taking ferry to an island, or been able to fly? That often helps with making choices about which island to visit.

Corfu! We have three separate weeks booked there this summer. Go every year. It's so green & beautiful.

Crete is wonderful. We go every year to a village half an hour from Chania for a break. It is beautiful.

We went to Kefalonia last year with DD9 and DS 5months. It was lovely, calm & relaxing. We stayed in Katelios where there wasn't really much except the beach and a few little shops / restaurants. We used the local bus service to go to Skala, which was a bit more busy and had mini golf and things, and to Argostoli the capital, where we saw wild sea turtles which was amazing! We also took an evening cruise to Ithaca, baby DS slept most of it and DD got to swim off the side of the boat. Depends on how old your DD is though, there was plenty in Kefalonia to keep my two entertained for two weeks.

We love Kefalonia, we stay in Lassi, close to the airport and the capital, Argostoli.

Also love Rhodes, like to stay at a hotel called Cosmos Maris in Lardos which is south of the island by Lindos.

Going this year to Alykes in Zante which looks lovely.

How old is your daughter? And what sort of things do you like doing?

iamme21 · 19/04/2018 16:59

@vilamoura2003 I am going to alykanas, just down the beach from alykes! It’s our third time, we love it!

DH & I had a lovely week on Crete pre DD but I can’t really remember what there is to do. The people are lovely & I’m sure would be great with kids.

Blue lagoon resort in kos. It's pure paradise

Crete - lots of big hotels along the north coast, Rethymno is beautiful, Elounda has a stunning hotel, and there is heaps to do,

Purplehammer · 19/04/2018 17:42

Santorini.
Went there over 20 years ago. Absolutely awesome.
Apparently it is now infested with people off of cruise liners in height of season so better to go early or late.

Crete is lovely and agree about Rethymo.
We're off to Rhodes for a 3rd time this year, staying near Lindi's (where we got engaged).
Santorini is very beautiful but more adult i think.
Zante is nice but I didn't think there was much to do there. However our children were very young at the time so maybe we were limited by that.

I’m following because I’d like to take my teen to Corfu this year. We’re not great in the height of summer and have NCS etc so wondering about May or Oct half term.
Any experiences welcomed! Quiet with a poole is all we need!

Kefalonia in the Ionian Islands or Naxos in the Athenian Islands. I love Greece but not been for years so cant recomend a hotel sorry. I couldn't go in Summer though-May/October would be perfect.Smile
