Ryanair or BA better for anxious flyer?

I haven't flown for many years and haven't flown with the kids before. I'm being brave and we're going to Spain this summer and I can't decide whether to go with Ryanair or BA (prices are around the same for our destination).

I feel anxious about being in the air but also about other things surrounding the flight:

  • Feeling claustrophobic and squashed on the plane if legroom is tight.
  • Having to sit next to strangers and our family being split across the plane.
  • Staff seeming rushed / rude / tense
  • Economy vibe making me worry about safety
  • The idea of being on the plane with drunkards / stag do types

Which airline feels more smooth and professional on board? I know that the calmer the vibe and the more room I have, the less anxious I'll feel.

Ive flown Ryanair once and vowed never to repeat it.

Never flown with BA.

If it was an equal cost choice between the 2, I'd go BA.

I've never flown with Ryanair but I would choose BA. I find using a low-cost carrier quite stressful in terms of adhering to their rules about carry-on luggage (and Ryanair's maximum size is peculiarly small). Not so much of a problem if you're taking hold luggage.

Staff and safety wise there shouldn't be any difference.

BA without a doubt, if for no other reason than Ryanair is like a flying shopping channel - they are relentless

If the price is the same, definitely go with British Airways. Just a nicer all-round experience and better service.

BA without hesitation

BA. Even the safety video will make you smile (comic relief special, or it was a few months ago).

BA, I flew BA and it was one of my favourite flight experiences. So comfy and the service was great.

I've flown both. I don't mind Ryanair but it's pretty basic and I felt it was quite unorganised but when I fly I sleep and I can sleep anywhere.

Even with a price difference I would fly with anyone other than RyanAir .

BA. Also, BA do a nervous flyer’s day course from Gatwick and Heathrow. Short of that, you could read the book written by their psychologist and a pilot. I did and it helped a lot

Thanks everyone, that's a big win for BA then! I'll go and book now and I'll check out that course too.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post, it's helped me a lot.
