Day in York with 6 and 8 year old

Hi
We have a day / night in York and was just wondering what is good to do with children - are the Viking centre or chocolate story any good? Any child friendly restaurant recommendations?

Yes and yes! Both Jorvik and Chocolate Story are great.
Double Dutch pancake house has a really enormous selection of equally enormous pancakes - both sweet and savoury. Or you can design your own. A good choice of creative milkshakes and gigantic frakenshakes! They do a smaller version of every pancake. It's right next door to the Minster (which is worth a climb if you have time).
The National Railway Museum is free and a really good trip even if you don't like trains. It's very interactive.

Brilliant thanks, the children love pancakes so that sounds like a great plan!

The castle museum with the indoor street is brilliant

Railway Museum is fantastic & free. Last time we went we just wandered around and walked the walls. There's a nice Pizza Express by the river.

Castle Museum
York Minster does backpacks for children to do/search things around the cathedral, worth getting one.
Walking around the Shambles

Railway Museum is brilliant imo!! Far better than Jorvik Centre for little kids Smile

GemmaB78 · 24/04/2018 16:06

Definitely railway museum rather than Jorvik for younger children. Otherwise all the above suggestions are great.

I agree with nancy75. We had been to The castle museum several times already. It was a very awesome place.

Book the Chocolate Story in advance - lots of disappointed people (including us) that hadn't!
