Family summer holiday to Sweden

We're doing a Scandinavia trip this summer and need somewhere relaxing for the final leg between Stockholm and the airport in skavsta near nykoping. I've looked at gotland and it looks gorgeous but a 3 hour ferry trip is just too far I think. It's for 5 nights and our budget is up to £160ish per night (it's expensive there!)

Any ideas? Preferably waterside location.

Hotel Torpa Pensionat. Rooms are beautiful, if a little dated, but they fit in well with the character of the building. It's only 5 minutes out of Sodertslje, but you wouldn't believe it because it's so quiet and green. Good service, excellent food and lake views from the breakfast room. The staff can recommend some lovely walks.

Oops, I should have said we need self catering and two bedrooms for us and the kids! We’re youth hosteling for a lot of it so this is our luxurious end!

Not been on your route but have been to Sweden a couple of times and other than alcohol not found it expensive. We stayed on oland for two weeks for 700 quid with a pool.

Like any country I think it's the cities, especially capital, that are expensive. We've found a nice city pad now and will just do day trips to the lakes etc. August is too far away though!

Aargh. That city pad fell through and we're driving ourselves mad looking for somewhere else. Sodermalm is looking a good place but I think 7 days in the city itself might be too long in a flat with no outside space. We were going to change the flights and leave earlier, but it's not worth the cost it turns out.

How can booking accommodation this far in advance be so stressful?! Confused

This place is lovely www.hotelj.com/en/. You can also book it through sites such as booking.com. It has a garden/water frontage and there is a park within walking distance.

A cheap ferry (I think DS age11 went free) goes from the dock to the city centre. There is loads to do with children in the city and one day we took a big ferry out to one of the islands.

We usually stay in hotels - the Scandic chain is reasonable

If you are out and about in the day and for dinner do you need outside space?

Gotland is lovely - the flight is very quick if you change your mind!
