Hi guys,

Brand new to this group and a brand new Mum!

I have an 8 week old that I often drive long distances with and so i’ve Bought a lie flat car seat which is perfect.

In October (so baby will be 10 months) I am planning on travelling across America with him and just wondered if anyone knows the guidelines of how long a 10 month old can stay in a car seat at one time...

I know that with new borns it’s recommended no more than 2 hours but wondered if this time span increases as the baby gets older.

Thanks a lot!

a 10 month old baby could get very, very bored on even a two hour journey. at your babies current age they will be sleeping a lot of the time. this wont be the case with a child who is possibly a toddler at 10 months. I think its more about how you can keep them occupied on a long journey rather than how long they can stay in a car seat. you need to start thinking of story tapes perhaps ipad to watch things on and generally be flexible enough so that one of you is in the back of the car with the child whilst the other is driving. have to say it wouldn't be my idea of fun - a bit older would definitely be a lot easier.
