Travelling Solo in Amsterdam

Heya
I was wondering if any of you ladies have traveled solo in Amsterdam? If so did you find it safe enough? Any tips beyond using common sense?

I've never traveled outside the UK on my own before but I'm looking forward to it. Also any general advice about Amsterdam? Things to do or places to see? Anything interesting off the beaten track?

Tia

Hi. I'm an Amsterdam blogger. I live in London but spend loads of time there. It's completely safe so long as you're sensible. Red Light District is pretty miserable and I'd suggest you keep an eye on your stuff when you're on the tram but otherwise it's glorious.

Loads of ideas on and off the beaten track on the blog. Have a read and let me know if I can help with anything. Have fun!!

I travel all the time to Amsterdam and it’s teally safe. It’s a great city and easy to visit and get around. My only advice is that similar to other places don’t go out late at night on your own etc etc.
Have fun on your travels!

Love Amsterdam and been on my own. I love the science museum, the little Art Deco cinema and all the usual stuff Smile

I had a glorious week in Amsterdam essentially solo - DH working/work-socialising in the evenings. Felt very safe in the day time, but to be fair I didn’t go out in the red light district particularly late (one evening meal nearby, which was fine).
Definitely get an iAmsterdam card, it covers some public transport which is handy, although most things are comfortable walking distance of the centre if you plan your route in the mornings. I also just dropped in to loads of attractions I wouldn't usually try, as they were free (with the card) and en-route. Probably my favourite ever holiday, have a great time!

Art Deco cinema is called Tuschinsky Pathe, the best way to see the city is from the water so take one of the boat tours (boats are close to the Central Station).
It is a safe city bar the pickpocketing and if you stick to touristy areas later at night you should be fine.
DO NOT rent a bike, it is a stupid idea.
Generally speaking, Amsterdam has anything and everything you're looking for. Arts, culture, partying, sex, drugs... you name it, it's there.

I travel there a lot for work and stay in hotels both in the city centre and outside. It's very safe to walk around and use public transport. I'm also happy to visit restaurants and bars alone. Red light district is also fine to walk around alone as it's usually busy but as PP said, take all the usual precautions as you would in the UK. People are very friendly.

Felt very safe there. And do rent a bike, I got one from my hotel - just concentrate as you would cycling anywhere else, the Vondelpark is lovely to cycle around.
