I wonder if anyone who has been to this island and might be able to give me any advice about staying in October.
Is the sea still warm enough to swim in?
What areas of the island are nicer?
Will everything be closed?
We don't mind quiet but would want to be able to eat out a couple of times.
We have two children and beach is important.

Thank you for any information Smile

No advice but watching for tips on nice places as we're going in June. Only have flights booked at the moment. The east of the island looks to have gorgeous beaches and we'll probably explore but can't decide where to base ourselves.

Watching with interest. I haven't been but have heard fantastic things and have looked at some of the places on the Costa Smerelda(?) which was recommended to us by someone who goes there a lot.

Well we went in August and it was beautiful but roasting hot. I would think October would be perfect! We stayed in Alghero which had beautiful beaches and also a really cool tree top trail type place.

I love Alghero although we haven’t been for a few years. The last time we went in October it was around 22-25 degrees, odd bit of rain but gently lovely. There’s great camping in Sardinia.

I don't know Sardinia that well, but I'd avoid Costa Smerelda at all times of the year. Not that it isn't beautiful - it is - but it's packed and extraordinarily expensive in July and August and deserted the rest of the time. Sardinia does suffer from Italians only liking going in high season which means you may struggle to find restaurants open outside the main months. One solution is to go to an area that has a university because students keep a place lively. So maybe worth looking at Cagliari and nearby, such as Chia?

What's your budget? Are you young? Family? Older?

abcnamechange · 04/02/2018 23:05

My limited experience is that Sardinia is shut apart from July and August so outside of that stay in a resort.

I went in mid to late September (many years ago) and it was boiling hot. Unbearably so at times. I love the country and the people. I’d happily return.
