Where's nice to get away for a long weekend?

Normally I escape to the lakes for the Easter holidays but this year I am child free and would like to go somewhere with DP. We like gothic architecture and old pubs. Good options for vegetarian food is a plus but we can manage on pizza! Great local Live music is a must! We live in the Midlands so would ideally like to escape from this part of the UK.
Thank you!

Bath is lovely or Edinburgh if sticking to UK.

How about York?

Uffishthought · 26/01/2018 08:32

Edinburgh

Belfast

Another vote for Edinburgh, or Glasgow, often overlooked as holiday destination, and possibly better for live music (no expert on this, from friends Facebook who live in Edinburgh but often go to Glasgow to see bands live). You could do both, they are very close really.

Bakewell. We've just returned. It was lovely 😁

We did a few days away in Bristol in the summer and really loved it. Not so much gothic architecture going on, but seemed to be loads of pubs, lots of music, loads of veggie options, travelling around the city by boat to make things seem very different and holidayish and plenty to do. We were going to go to Bath for a day trip but didn't need to as we were so busy doing other stuff.

Or could you get to Calais easily enough? There are loads of fab places within an hour or so's drive of Calais...

You could stay somewhere like Pickering . It is easy from there to visit York, Whitby and Scarborough plus there is a forest nearby ( think it's Dalby ) so the best of everything!
