Best hire car in Spain

We are looking for 12 days from Girona in April. I have been looking on line but am put off by all the bad reviews/ extra charges / reports of dissatisfied customers.

Does anyone have any postive experience of a particular firm?

Are Hiper or Centauro at Girona? We've used both of them in Mallorca without problems.

Don't use Record or Goldcar.

We had good service from European there.

Do not use Goldcar. Loads of charges taken after car was returned and I was fighting a loosing battle trying to speak to someone.

Has anyone used Firefly - I think they are part of Hertz? They seem to have 20% off currently and there are some other voucher codes going round (when I google)

Have rented cars in Spain lots of times and it always feels risky. But mostly it's turned out fine. Except for Firefly who were dreadful.
