My head is buzzing - and I know its been asked but....we are looking to book new York for a week at beginning if August. Happy to stay further out and train in. We were looking at Air BNB but know this is illegal. Have any of you stayed in apartment style hotels? We need a bit more space than the average Manhattan room, hence why were happy to travel. Thanks

We are staying in Brooklyn. We have 2 rooms with kitchenettes in.
Very close to the metro and a large food market.
We are a family of 4 with older teens soneed space.
It was loads cheaper to stay in Brooklyn and I’m glad we are booked in there.
I’ll get you the hotel name if it would help.

We stayed in te Doubletree Suites in Jersey City, very nice with big rooms, we had a two room suite - a bedroom with two doubles, and a separate lounge with huge sofa bed.
We stayed with a family of 5 - two teens and a 12 year old, and found it spacious. Each room had a HUGE tv and green WiFi - the kids were very happy.

It was very easy to catch the PATH train across to Manhattan in 10-15 mins, you can use your metro (subway) card and it cost $2.75. I’d definitely stay there again.

That should be free WiFi, not green!

How many people will be travelling?

reallysayingsomething · 09/01/2018 20:59

Thank you! There are 4 of us - 2 adults, and our kids aged 11 and 16.

Stayed for a week before Christmas and we really wanted to be in manhatten where its all happening. There were 4 of us and we only had one room - 2 double beds, but we managed. It was fine for us as we really only went back to sleep and were on a budget, but our dcs are older (18 and 20) so I understand wanting more space.
NYC is fabulous and you will love it. Sorry I've been no help whatsoever.

antimatter · 10/01/2018 14:19

@Peggyandkitty where were you staying?

Peggyandkitty · 10/01/2018 16:26

San Carlos hotel. It wasn't particularly cheap but OK for midtown and we only had the one room.

We stayed at the W on Lexington and it was a good location, slightly out the way but easy to walk to the metro. Fairly priced

Kimpton Ink 48 in Hells Kitchen is superb and has lovely big rooms if you go above standard. Not an apartment as such, no kitchen facilities, but if it's space you're after then it might work. Good walking distance to everything too.

We stayed in the World Center Hotel in the financial district and loved it. Our suite had 1 double bed, bathroom and little lounge area (sofa tv kitchen facilities and balcony) our room looked over ground zero and towards the One World Trade Center, and we could see the Hudson River. It was brilliant. I found being in the financial district was quieter at night than somewhere more central and yet we were just a 3 minute walk to lots of subway stations. I'd definitely go back to the same hotel.
