luxury/style not far from london?

We want to go asway for the bank holiday weekend (i know - probably all booked up!) byut can't face a long drive from south=-west london so thought we'd go somwhere not too far. I want a nice child-friendly hotel with things to do in the area. Prepared to pay a bit...!

where is the grove? Excuse my ignorance!

Someone recommended CrazyBear hotel near Oxford to us for something nice but bit different, also recommended the Bedford Lodge, think nr Newmarket with things to do nearby, was on laterooms.com when I looked.

Where are you? SW London or S London?
What do you want? Beach? Kids club?

the south coast has lots to offer in new forest is nice sandy balls has lovely log cabins

www - budget about £500. Keen on good food, nice accomodation and some kids facilities - maybe a heated pool.

Danesfield Hotel is nice, near Windsor or Ickworth at Bury St Edmunds. Latter more child friendly, former has lovely spa!

We stayed at Calcot Manor once. V. child friendly (facilities), good food and luxury. There's a wildlife park down the road from it too.

Babington House also meant to be great, popular with Londoners for w/e's (or was). Not stayed there though.
