How should a letter to a school be worded when requesting a week off for holidays.

I'm really struggling with it, we are going on the last week of term as it is the only time during the year they would get a holiday otherwise.

I'd just put something like
I am writing this letter to inform you that dd will be away from school on the following dates.

Please contact me should there be any problems.

Many thanks
etc etc

and tell class teacher in person to see if there is any work you can/should take sort of thing.

The schools I've been involved with have specific forms, which makes the whole wording thing easier - alternatively you could just make an appointment to see the head, if you're better face to face than in writing IFKWIM.

I write asking for permission (even if am going to take it-we are abroad with dh a lot in termtime) and give the reason why.

Do they not have forms?

Otherwise

Dear Sirs

Please could blah di blah be given permission to have a week off school, week commencing blah di blah to attend the family holiday. This week is the only week that my husband and I are both able to be off at the same time.

With thanks

Radley

You know, when I 'ved had them from studetns, I just glance at the letter and make a note of the dates. All that has been suggested is fine, short and to the point

And try to push the educational angle - if there is one - travel broadens the mind etc - and yes, ask if there's school work you can take with you

hana · 19/04/2007 17:02

of course, head could be a woman, so I wouldn't put sirs

Pixiefish · 19/04/2007 17:10

I only put sirs as a filler. I wouldn't put blad di blah either

aha!
