Buying DIY or Dynamic Package holiday with flights from a Travel Agent? ATOL?

Does anyone know what an ATOL is.

Should a travel agent who sells you a accommodation and flights provide one?

Agents are ABTA but did not give and ATOL Receipt.

Must go to school run, be back soon.

ATOL is the air travel bonded number info here but may only apply to the flight part if you have booked the accommodation separately. You should be able to find the relevant number fairly easily.

Lizs - thanks nice link, this is what I can make out...

ATOL won?t protect you if you book direct with an airline.

The ABTA agents ? provide some financial protection, but for on non-air holidays.

"The role of ATOL is to ensure that you don?t lose out if you book a flight or an air holiday with a travel firm and it then goes out of business, either before you travel or while you?re abroad."

So should the travel firm / agent should give me one? I think they should. But they haven't!
