A week in Europe with a toddler

Finally pinned down dh to the second week in October for a holiday, but where to go? Figuring a week on a beach somewhere isn't going to cut it with a two year old, even if we could find some sun at that time of year. Looking for some inspiration please - where have you been and enjoyed with toddlers?!

DS is currently 21 months. We've travelled a lot with him. So far as screaming/running away toddler we've taken him to Madrid (fantastic play parks everywhere, so you can do an activity then park then activity and small enough to get back to the hotel for a nap if needed), Seville, Granada and a resort in Marbella.

Thanks for the response. Seville is actually on the short list but been told it's not really somewhere to spend a whole week?

We've travelled quite a lot with her but previously we've managed to get on and do sightseeing/ hiking etc with short breaks for some fun and running around for dd. She's no longer happy to sit in the buggy for extended periods, so have to think of properly child friendly holidays for the first time. Wondering about the Algarve - anyone taken a toddler? Recommendations for accommodation?

We are going to the algarve with a 17 month old first week of oct. We chose a hotel that has good facilities for both children and adults.

Martinhal looks good
