I have a flight booked with Ryanair to Murcia San Javier at the end of September for a copule of days. I was meant to be visiting someone but that's been postponed. Changing a flight with Ryanair costs more than the actual flight so I wondered if anyone could recommend where to go, where to stay and what there is to do when in the Murcia area please?

I am going there myself in November to see a gig - but it's a new place to me.

As far as I have worked out you can get to La Manga - if you want a seaside break.

Cartagena has Roman ruins etc

Murcia itself looks to have some places of interest too.

Thank you margo. Looks like the airport is right on the coast so I may head for the seaside as it will probably still be quite warm at the end of September.

I go every year in October and it's still warm then so it should be lovely in September. We stay in Los Alcazares in a rented house. It's a seaside resort on the Mar Menor about 10 minutes from the airport. I wouldn't bother going to the La Manga strip, there's nothing there apart from high rise apartment blocks. We just laze on the beach all week!

I've found a hotel in Los Alcazares I like the look of so I'm thinking that a couple of days lazing on the beach will suit me fine.

My Mum lives in the area. Los Alcazares is a good base and will take less than 10 mins in a taxi (if you don't bother to hire a car). It is the most tourist of the towns in the local area but in the summer it is packed with Spanish and tourists alike. Weather in September will still be lovely as we go in October for half term and are always on the beach.

If you have a car the port of Cartagena is nice (they do a tour boat around the bay whish is only 5 or 6 euros).

Thanks hersetta. I'm looking forward to a few days in the sunshine. Good to know that the weather stays warm into October too. I might go there for the odd long weekend if the flights remain cheap.
