Car hire advice please - do I go on the cheap?

Need to hire a car in SW France in May...done the usual internet trawl and have found two companies who seem very competitive, namely Argus and Nova. Has anyone ever used them before? Whilst I want to save some dosh I don't want to compromise on quality/safety etc. so I'd appreciate any advice or cautionary tales about those or any other car hire firms. Thanks!

Have you tried Carjet? I found them very cheap and very good. HTH

It's worth checking if there's a daily mileage limit. We used Easycar on a trip to Scotland because they were really cheap but then discovered we could only travel about 40 miles a day, which in the north of Scotland doesn't get you far.
