Sardinia, Sicily or Malta .... help me decide

DD21 and I are hoping to get away for a week in mid September. I had thought of Bulgaria for cheap and cheerful, but the airfares have doubled in just a week, so that's out.

So now I'm down to this trio, only because they seem the cheapest to get to and are the furthest south I can afford.

We are agreed on beach, not budget hotels (ie must have a pool) and some sights to wander around, whether ancient or modern. I would also like it all to cost under £800 and not cost a fortune when we get there.

Over to you well travelled MNers. What are your thoughts? Is there somewhere else I should be considering?

DD is 21, not my 21st. Just to avoid all confusion!

Watching with interest. I'm looking for a week in Sept in Sardinia or Sicily too. Same criteria.

I would go Sardinia. It is heavenly, nice and tourist friendly but still with a lot of history to be absorbed in. I love Sicily but it is more of a culture holiday I think. There are some very poor areas of Sicily and the hotels aren't as nice as Sardinia. Don't bother with Malta when you can go to Sardinia.

Thank you wets. I think you've confirmed what I was thinking. Do you know Sardinia well? Any advice as to north or south? I have been to Alghero but that was many years ago, when DD was still in primary school. It blew a gale all week and was too cold to use the pool - I think it was a freakish June that year!

Always happy to help thenightsky Smile
