Singapore Changi - is two hours long enough...

....to have a swim? or will we just be running from gate to gate. I know in the past those two hours have dragged interminably while we tried to entertain DD. Any thoughts?

oh, hello again! Depends on location of gates, I guess. We found it okay when we had a 4hour stop off. Can youcheck their website/with yr airline?

janinlondon · 21/03/2007 11:31

Thanks RTTH - have had a look - hard to tell how fast we can travel, though I found that our incoming flight is usually early....which helps a bit I suppose! Not sure how far ahead of the outgoing flight they make you sit in the cattle compound. Always seems excessively long..

We've been through Changi a few times, with a 2hr stopover. Tbh, once we've been to the loo and looked in the shops it's usually time to head off anyway.

israel · 21/03/2007 11:47

We had a 3hr stop over....and had planned to have a swim at the hotel which is at the airport...we packed our swim things in hand luggage....but after having washes and looking around at the lush orchid gardens dotted around....it was time to go and get the connecting flight.

janinlondon · 21/03/2007 12:09

What about if we were single minded? Shops hold no interest at all, and I am usually desperate to expend some 7yo energy by this stage. And we are pretty slick with our after-swim redress routine as we do it often. Please please please tell me I can....

Yes I would say you do have time...look at the hotel which is at the airport..(google changi airport and find hotel)..we were told its a fab place to take a dip....and had looked foward to it...most of the 17hr journey...with two kids...one 4...the other 13yrs .....but we were so knackered....we just walked and looked around....didnt even go into the shops....plus it was dawn....and very humid outside....we just watched the sun rise...whilst looking at all the fabulous orchids....and coi carp swimming in ponds.
Where are you flying onto?

janinlondon · 21/03/2007 12:19

Flying on to Brisbane. Know the airport layout fairly well, so wouldn't exactly get lost...

I had a similar question - flying to Sydney with 2 hour stop in Hong Kong. Was hoping to swim too... It's in September - Jan, let me know whether you manage it or not!!! We have 3.5 and 1 yr old so was really hoping...

israel · 21/03/2007 12:21

SO... have the swim and enjoy......
I'm living in Perth.

janinlondon · 21/03/2007 12:24

Clairemow - didn't realise there was a pool in Hing Kong airport! Will keep that in mind next time I'm booking.

That'll be HONG Kong. Doh!

clairemow · 21/03/2007 12:49

Oh No!!!! I hadn't checked, and blithely assumed it'd be like Singapore... Note to self to check next time....

janinlondon · 21/03/2007 12:59

Oh....sorry, does that mean there's not one Claire?

OP posts:
clairemow · 21/03/2007 13:20

doesn't look like it on www.hongkongairport.com... Shucks. There is a shower and relaxation thing, so we'll just have to go there instead.

hitchcock · 30/03/2007 09:56

isreal

as you live in perth do you know if the airport bus is still running after 11pm as we are arriving at 1155 and all it says is that it meets all international flights but on another website it says it finishes at 11pm. we arrive in 3 weeks staying up in quinns beach where are you based??

janinlondon · 23/04/2007 15:43

Well I'm back and can report that 2 hours is plenty long enough to swim at Changi. And it is SO worth it. Helps set the local time clock in your head a bit further forward too. They close the gates for flights at Singapore 10 minutes before the flight time, so there is much more time than you might think.
