Nice lake - 1 hour from London

As it's hot this weekend - would like to take dc's to a lake - but not in London. Somewhere safe for paddling or swimming - good for families - up to 1 hour drive outside London would be great - thanks

Liquid Leisure is great fun but will probably be busy.

Ruislip Lido. There's a beach and reservoir, cafe & a little train through the woods back to the car park. You can paddle in the reservoir but not swim. There's also a splash park and playground.

I'd get there early though, it's likely to be packed!

Which side of London? You have Bewl Water in Kent, may stretch the 1hr mark though. We are in SE London, directly above the Kent border and it is just an hour for us.
