Best family hotels

For the first time we want to go away in the middle of August (Dh's big bday) and I'm dreading how busy and hot it will be. We have two DDs 4 and 1 so for the first time I'm looking at hotels with splash pools and kids clubs but they all look like my idea of hell. I think the problem is that all the best hotels are already booked. I'm looking at the Balearics mainly due to the heat and short flight time. Can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel that doesn't cost the earth and won't be like Butlins??

For this year it will be wherever you can get.
Kids clubs won't take 1 year olds but there are hotels with crèches that will, try sensatori, ikos Olivia, sani resorts.
Baby boltholes is a good website, sovereign families or tots too

It's for this year, I does seem to be that all the best stuff has either gone or is about £5k.
