Car seat in Europe - what do you do?

Hi,

I have a 6 yo and a 4yo and up and usually hire car seats when hiring a car. Usually very expensive!!

This year I am thinking about taking booster seats in our hand luggage and am looking at the boostapak (sic?).

My husband doesn't think these are safe or allowed. From what I understand, booster seats are fine.

My question is - if you travel abroad with kids (similar age), what do you do? Boostapak, standard cheap booster seat, take a big car seat or hire one?

Many thanks

I take proper high back booster seats with me as I want my own decent seats that fit the kids. I wouldn't use a booster seat without a back as they are not safe and they are being phased out.

I use inflatable "bubble bums"

Bubble bum! But check your DC are old enough for it.

we have a bubble bum. They were selling them in our local Home Bargains for cheap too :-)

Thanks all. Booboostwo, exactly my concerns which is why we normally hire. I just wondered whether we were being overly cautious when booster seats would do. Will look at bubblebum although I hate blowing up balloons!

Take own seat. Every airline we've flown with has allowed this free of charge.

We take full high back booster from home. Just check into hold luggage at airport for free

We used a Boostapak, our DS liked it because he could carry his own bit of luggage.

I'm not sure I would have used it if we were doing a lot of motorway driving but I wouldn't be afraid to use it again.
