hiya..i'm new to mumsnet, and am sure there is probably a million threads on this already but need some advice on travelling to oz with a 5mth old such as...

  1. is it ok to fly business class or will other passengers be mighty pissed off with a baby crying?!
  1. do i need to take the car seat or can i hire one there?

have a million other things but minds gone blank!! hope someone can help!

thanks

we did it in one go when we came out with dd1 aged 8 months at the time. We had an afternoon flight out of heathrow - became a night flight and then another night flight arriving in Brisbane at 6.30am. Dd1 slept almost all of the way - woke up on our short stopover in Singapore.

However when we came out the second time - had a 5 day stopover in SIngapore which was fab - jet lag gone when it was time to come on to Brissy.

info re hiring baby equipment in Canberra

as someone else said - i think if I travelled with a small babe again - I would go straight to Aus and worry about the jet lag when I got there but coming home would probably try and have a couple of days to just unwind on the way back to the UK in SIngapore. We found three weeks madly visiting family was tiring and we did not have a lot of time out for family ( as in dh, dd1 and I) time. A couple of days in Singapore would have been fab to just laze by the pool and wander around.

Just wondered if anyone had experience of Emirates to OZ? We recently have booked flight to 'Brisvegas' with ds who will be 11mths when we depart. He is such a chunky chap that we have booked seat for him - as he will be too heavy for bassinette & I could not bear the thought of him on my lap for 27 hours. Any thoughts on the strengths/ weaknesses of this airline?

no personal experience, but comes highly recommended by flight centre...sorry can't be more help

only heard good things about Emirates although have not flown them personally.

lady from work travelled NZ to Oz with emirates last week. She could not speak highly enough of them and she has travelled quite a bit. She said she would pay the extra and only travel with them from now on.
