Hi, we're going to Italy for a few days in March, and I am after any advice you can offer on best luggage configuration. There'll be me, DH, DS2.9 and DS 0.4.

In the past we've travelled just the three of us with two rucksacks, a pull-along case for DS2.9 if his stuff can't fit in ours, and two carry-on shoulder bags.

We will probably have DS0.4 in a Bjorn, no stroller, and we'll be hiring the carseats at the other end.

I would really like to dump the rucksacks, but DH says that without them travel would be impractical.

Any advice / tips please!

I never travel anywhere with out my pull-along case. Can't imagine trying to manage children and rucksacks! If it was me, I'd convienently 'lose' the rucksacks and buy some decent cases instead. They are easy to transport, fit neatly into the boot of a car and provide a seat when queuing for check-in!

Thanks for your input!

We've found that at a push we can each take one rucksack on our backs, one of us can carry DS2.9 if he's too tired to walk, and the other of us can take the two daypacks. So far it's worked out fine.

BUT I am sick of looking like we are on our gap years with the rucksacks!

DH's line of thought is that now we also have DS 0.4, if we didn't have our luggage on our backs, how could we carry a suitcase each, plus a child each (DS 0.4 is still pretty light, but DS 2.9 is getting too heavy to even carry home from the park"), plus our day packs?

Thanks again
