DH and I are wanting to go there, we have never been to spain.

DS is on a school trip so won't be with us

We would like a 5* hotel

This is for July 2007

We would like to be able to travel to Barcelona but the hotel doesn't need to be in the city {but it would be preferable}

How easy is it to travel around by taxi or train etc. or even drive

Thanks guys

you want to go on holiday to somewhere called TOSSA

Gerona is lovely... smaller than barcelona, but a train ride away. Been to barcelona at least six times. We try to get in one trip a year these days. Love it.

RTKangaMummy · 16/02/2007 14:25

Actually if it is a train ride away would Barcelona be better

We are planning to go to concert in evening in Barcelona

Any hotels in Barcelona to recommend?

Hotel Majestic in Barcelona is lovely. Very central.

Tossa de Mar is full of English pubs serving pizza and chips. Avoid.

Depends on how much you have to spend. The H10 chain are very good and the ones on Universitat and Plaza de Catalonia are very central. We always use the metro to get around the city.

There is a restaurant on Las Ramblas called 'The Attic' - try and get a table there - it is beautiful - a rooftop terraceand the food is wonderful - gets v busy though so you will have to book in advance!!

Hope you have a wonderful time.

Just finished writing a huge long post and then the computer crashed.. grrrrr

After weeks of deliberation and research I am off to Hotel 1898 in Barcelona next week.

It is rated #1 hotel in barca and is right on las ramblas. It has fantastic reviews, outdoor pool and underground spa.

Off on sunday for a week.. will report back.

Barcelona is lovely

We had a cheapy holiday in this area in October. We stayed in a supposedly 4 star hotel in Calella, 30 mins south of Tossa. Hotel was actually pretty good for what we paid, though I don't think we'd go back there.

What was good though was the location - we flew into Gerona, hired a car and went to a different place most days. We spent 1 full day in Barcelona (we drove into the outskirts, bought a 10 journey metro card and used it to explore the whole city), 1 in Montserrat and 1 in Gerona, as well as shorter trips to smaller towns (including Tossa). I'd definitely go back to the region, as if you hire a car there are so many places to go - cities, beach, mountains all within easy reach. We wouldn't stay in a hotel/resort again though - too noisy, too many English pubs etc, we'd hire a villa or cottage - if you're prepared to pay for 5* in Barcelona, you could probably get a nice villa for less money a bit further away.

we went to tossa de mar in sept last year when dd was 3 months old, its a lovely place, very spanish. lloret de mar on the other hand is quite loud and catered more for the brits, we went there for the day and were so glad we werent staying there
