Had an awesome recommendation last year for the Loire (Logis du Pressoir) but want to venture further south, preferably near the coast, this time. Any recommendations? Will have DC (aged 6 and 2 by then).

We have taken the DC to a few places in France over the years.

One of my favourites was in the Dordogne (so not near the coast, but very lovely with river activites) this one

Have stayed in Charente and Charente Maritime a few times - again not right by the coast -but Charente Maritime place was 30 min drive.

This April we stayed in the Vendee region. it was a good 40 mins to the coast though where we were. There are loads of properties to rent at the seaside - particularly for beach holidays.

Our DC are grown up now so we travel in a party of deux - so our requirements are different now.

It all depends on what your most important things in a holiday are. But ifyou want a warmer area then def consider Vendee and down to the Charente (if you want to stick to the Coast).

I love France and can happily give more pointers if you need them.

Happy planning.

Thanks bangers. If you have recommendations of any specific accommodation in those regions that would be great. My friend gave me the name of a lovely place in Charente but they're already booked up for school holidays...

Can I ask what websites/ organisations you are booking through? Thanks!

I have stayed here and it was lovely and good value. (You book direct with the owners).

OP- this is where we stayed in Spring this year.

Vendee

It was really nice. A quiet area - but lots to do and see within driving distance. No small DC for us - so don't know what is available for DC.

missanneshirley I tend to look at Chez Nous, Owners Direct or Homeaway for properties to rent.

We stayed at an amazing place a few years ago when our dc were 6 and 3, called Elzet. There are 4 or 5 gites within the chateau but all are self contained and has a spring fed above ground pool. It is not near the sea but there is lots to do in the area.

We stayed at this gite and campsite in the Loire Valley. We stayed in Heron which was lovely. The owners are English and are very friendly. There is a small pool on site.
