LAPLAND ... Thomson.... Anyone else going to see FC, or been already?

Hello, I'm booked to go and see FC with Thomson this December. Anyone else going?

Also have a q if anyone here has been before? Day 4 they take back your "kit" (outer layer and boots). On that day its Santa Claus Village on the way to the Airport. Do I need ski trousers and snow boots, or any boots, or just regular trainers and jeans? Thanks!

When we went to Lapland we took warm coats and boots for the transfers. You will need them to walk through the snow to get to where they keep the snowsuits and boots. Trainers wouldn't have been warm or waterproof enough. DD and I already owned snowboots anyway and were glad that we took them. In fact we wore our own all the time we were there.

We didn't do a Santa trip as DD is too old for that. We went in February to see the Northern Lights and it was worth it.

You will need several layers of clothes, hats, waterproof gloves and snoods or scarves as they are not provided. I bought all of these things from Decathlon who specialise in ski wear.

We handed back our kit before our transfer back to the airport because it belonged to the hotel.

I've got snow boots and warm jackets/hats gloves etc.

Been googling about layers and think I have a list cobbled together of what more I need.

I got some "thermaskin heat pant" leggings from Lands End and absolutely love them. I've chucked out my old leggings and have been wearing those (with dresses) when I go out, they look great (and are warm!). Also the kids Merino wool thermals from Mountain Warehouse seem lovely and warm, although only one child will wear them (one is v. sensory/picky about fabrics)

If you are going to Lapland in December it is really important that you wear really warm layers under your snowsuits. We wore leggings and thermal leggings under the snowsuits. On the top half we had a base layer, a mid layer and a fleece. It was -10 when we were there in February, but at Christmas it was -37.

On reading reviews about our holiday everybody was unanimous in saying that waterproof gloves were a must, and I agree. We also wore thin ski gloves under them.

Don't underestimate just how cold it can get.

Had planned for 3 layers. Was going to
Opt for thermal tights and thermal leggings for my bottom half and base layer then thermal then fleece for ds.

Too half 3 layers for us both.(silky base layer,
Long sleeved thermal and then a fleece or wool) Have also got snoods, wooly hats, waterproof gloves and some hand and feet warmers.

Is there anything I've missed do you think?
We will have our own boots to travel in but snow suit is provided.

What did you wear to fly in? I'm thinking I'll need to take an extra layer for us both and change on plane? As well as having all hats and gloves etc available?

Sounds roughly what I'm going with.

Ski type thermal leggings and long sleeve top (silky/man made, not cotton)
Then either jogging trousers and a wool or fleece jumper, or a fleece onesie
Then the provided ski suit.

If it comes to it, I can fit the onesie over the joggers! Seems to depend on the weather though. If its "only" minus 20, most people I've spoken too just wear the thermals and snow suit (no mid layer). At minus 40 people seem to struggle.

I've got a few tunic-dress type tops which go nicely over the thermal leggings. I'm planning on wearing those on the plane and to restaurants. The snow suit should fit over it all. I guess I will wear trainers on the plane and carry snow boots with me, and change over just before I get off the plane?

Also I have assorted wool and thermal socks, gloves, mittens (wool and ski/waterproof), hats with earflaps, balaclavas, a couple of those hand warmers.

Don't forget bathers if you have a pool at your hotel? Also someone mentioned taking a snowman kit (but I think I'll have enough hats and scarves for an army of snowmen!). Also might take snacks as I understand food is a bit pricey (and I have one really fussy child)

I forgot to say thermal socks, but you have that covered.

the place we went to was full board because it was in the middle of nowhere. There wasn't anywhere else to eat. No-one changed out of their day clothes in the evening or dress up. Most of us were staying in lodges or cabins so we would turn up to meals in snowsuits and multiple layers anyway and we just wriggled out of the top half of our snow suits and took our fleeces off. We didn't have a pool.
