Birthday treat in NYC

I am going to New York in the new Year with 2 friends to celebrate our 30th birthdays (we all turn 30 within 3 months) and I really want to plan something for us all while we are there. We're planning to do the standard tourist stuff - statue of liberty, empire state, 911 memorial etc.

Has anyone been and have any suggestions on something I can plan and maybe book as a birthday treat for us all?

Broadway show, definitely!

A dinner cruise. They are fab and you see the manhattan skyline at night.

Swanky or not swanky?

For restaurants, Gotham is just wonderful and they do amazing cocktails.

Another great place for cocktails with amazing views is The Skylark

But for inexpensive, touristy fun - you can't beat Ellen's

Empire state at sunset
Top of the rock
skating in central park (weekday early morning - use that jetlag)
avoid Macys
Union Square market is great
in winter, get the ticket to MMA and take the bus up to Cloisters to enjoy the views

Go and see grand central station, free but just cool to see
Ice skating Central Park
Bloomingdales
Get a bagel and hot chocolate and eat it in Central Park
Go to an Irish bar in the eve, great fun
Go on the subway
A show is great, we didn't even see a really famous one but it was awesome.
