Car hire- no credit card

Hi all!
Just wondering if anyone has managed to rent a car without having a credit card? We're heading off tomorrow and while printing our documents I noticed that the car hire place say it's credit card only. I don't have one. Any suggestions? Or does anyone know of a rental company that accepts visa debit?

Where are you going?

Most car hire places ask for a credit card. If you haven't got one can you use your debit card instead? Otherwise you will have to take a stack of cash as a deposit.
