We are flying in late to Bergamo and I need to know which of the hire companies desks will be open. Flight arrives quarter past midnight. Difficult getting the info on the websites.

which companies are you looking at? do you need translation? (I'm Italian, but never flied into bergamo so don't have a clue)

There are loads listed for the airport, a few websites are in english but don't seem to have opening hours for individual branches.

SOme wouldn't let me book for that pick up time, but some would but I am worried about turning up and it being shut.

I am still waiting for a reply from the campsite, I wanted to know if I could arrive in the early hours or I we should book a hotel. So I have a flight booked and no accomadation, I can book the same site through hoseasons but the ones on the camps own website are better equiped.

So if you could translate this I might get a reply

"We want (desperatly) to book for a week from the 7th of april. Please can you advise me if I can arrive at 2am as our flights arrive late, or should I book alternative acommmodation for that night. Thankyou."

"Vorremmo prenotare per una settimana a partire dal 7 di aprile. Il nostro volo arriva a Bergamo a mezzanotte e un quarto, possiamo presentarci intorno alle due di notte oppure e' meglio se ci troviamo una sistemazione alternativa e arriviamo l'indomani mattina? Grazie infinite, skribble"
Hope this works. companies like hertz shoudl be open 24hrs, but in Italy, you never know...........

Skribble · 22/01/2007 22:46

Oh fantastic I will cut and paste that and see if that works .

I will have another go at the car hire, but if staying in a hotel nearby I will get one in the city instead of going back out to the airport, but if going straight to site I will need one from the airport, plus different pick up days so I really need to know, argh.

What are the chances of a campsite being able to deal with arrivals at 2am? Its not a huge one.

Is the airport orio al serio? it has a website with a link of the car hire companies, I'm sure you can email one in english about their opening times
www.sacbo.it/Airpor/portalProcess.jsp
that's the airport website (sorry can't do link)
then click on trasporti via terra
then down to noleggio auto
hope it's of any help

We hired with Hertz at Bergamo. Arrived mid afternoon though.

At last I have ahd a reply to my e.mails to the site, I can arrive in the middle of the night, keys will be left with nightwatchman.

Still have to figure out who I can hire a car with that will have a desk open at that time of night.

I'd check with the campsite about this because some of them shut their gates for the night and Id hate to think you arrived and couldn't get in.

We are flying into Milan in the evening for our holiday - not as late as you though - but have booked a hotel for one night at either end of the stay, so we can pick the car up early after a good night's sleep and take a leisurely drive to the campsite, stopping off at any places of interest that take our fancy.

It makes for a better holiday I think but of course you have to pay extra for the hotel and a little extra for car hire at the end of your stay if you're bringing the car back late.

Something to think about though and tbh I haven't booked car hire at all yet, too many quotes and clauses for me to sift through, it's taking ages!

Skribble · 26/01/2007 13:37

Its ok the arrangement will be that the keys will be left with the night security and in the morning I have to go to reception.

I have found a car hire that will be open when we arrive so we look all set, I will book that tonight after DH decides which size of car to go for.

I really didn't want to have to go to a hotel we are only going for 7 nights so just want to get there and relax. Hotel was going to be pricy anyway. DH happy driving and we are both normally up at that time of night anyway.

OK sounds like you're all set then! Let me know if you find a good car hire company I am still looking (completely foxed by terms and conditions )

Skribble · 26/01/2007 13:44

I am just ignoring the terms and conditions they don't vary much from company to company, just make sure insurance is included, and you put enough petrol in before returning or they charge a fortune.

Well the prices are just as confusing, for the same car I've had quotes that vary by £100. However I have to book something sooner or later. At the moment, with a baby seat included, the car is going to cost more than our accomodation!

Tamz77 · 26/01/2007 14:49

Also are you ignoring the insurance excesses on the policies? Some of them are up to 3000 euros, I don't want to have to pay that if we have an accident.
