Rome with bump or baby?

It's Dh's 40th birthday in August and I'd been planning a trip to Rome as his present. Had planned to go in October school holiday.

But... now I'm pregnant with baby number 4 due on Aug 25th.

I'd still love to go but not sure of the practicalities. We could go at the end of May with me being 27 weeks pregnant. Or stick to original plan and go October and bring baby (prob 6 weeks old). I'm not sure how the other children would take to this though.

Any opinions on what would be the better option? If we don't go this year I think it'll be his 50th before we get the chance again!

Hi Ceolas

DH and I are going to Rome at the beginning in May for our first wedding anniversary (and my 30th birthday!). I'm due the same day as you and I'll be 24 weeks when we go.

IMO going whilst PG would be better than with a very young baby. We're just going to take the trip easy and not march around all the sites in our usual military fashion!

Good thinking MrsTom. I'm also wondering when I'll feel most 'romantic' IYSWIM!

You probably won't be feeling 'romantic' with a six week old bambino in tow!

Are you booking a package or doing flights/hotel separately? I can't seem to get it less than £1000 for 3 nights

Flights and hotel separately.

Costing £800 in total for flights and 5 nights B&B. We're flying Jet2 from Manchester and staying at a hotel overlooking the Colosseum.

Forgot to add that is over the first May bank holiday weekend.

Are you thinking of going over half term? Might be the reason why it is more expensive?

Ceolas · 18/01/2007 09:40

Yes it's the bank holiday weekend at the end of May we're looking at.

If I book flights with KLM and hotel separately I can get it marginally cheaper than Expedia, but still close to £1000 for 3 nights.

I've done Rome with a buggy and toddler. It is hilly and cobbled.
But it's beautiful and you will love it.
