How do you go about it and where do you find cheap ones.

Looking on some websites they are up to 1k for a week.

I am looking to go with some friends (both from london) I am in s,wales so looking for somewhere mid-way between. Only from Friday to Sunday and not too expensive maybe £300 or less for the weekend

You could try the National Trust website. We stayed in one of theirs at Rhosilli and it was great value.

Welcome Cottages or Cottages 4 You are good. You can also book cottages (cottages4you ones) via lastminute.com.

We have booked a week in N Yorks at Easter, 3 bed, for under £400.

Not all properties do short breaks, but a fair few do.

would also recommend cottages 4 you - loads of choice, all types and prices, good info and pictures

farm and cottage holidays are good. loads of photos on line, plus online availability. it's also a small company, which i like.

I google the area I want to go for, and "self catering" and see what comes up or go to the local Tourist Board website. I find the cottages let through agents tend to be more pricey.

Just tried it for Wiltshire and came up with this lovely sounding cottage Pigwig Cottages . Not sure if it sleeps enough/too many - but right price range.

hmm dont want anywhere that encourages children (this has a games room )

We want a remote cottage for 3-4 adults with a local pub within walking distance, no kids, shops, nightclubs, bars within a 20mile radius .
